Why cast your vote for me?
Bayside is great place to live. Quiet, friendly welcoming people, good public services, not a lot more that one could ask for. Well, maybe there are a few issues that could be addressed -
Did the process in which the One North Complex was approved by the board of Trustees and the Architectural Board of Review really serve the best interests of the town?
Was the process as transparent as it could be? A quick look at the records, ranging from newspaper articles, to town trustee meetings, to the recent lawsuit and casual discussion with residents, indicates that maybe it was not as transparent as it should have been.
Most homeowners have seen a significant rise in property taxes. While many of the reasons can be traced to actions by state government, what actions by the Board of Trustees have been taken to mitigate this increase?
While monthly Board of Trustee meetings are held (excepting for summer months), these are poorly attended. As a Board member I will introduce a resolution to institute QUARTERLY TOWN MEETINGS. These meeting would give residents and business owners the opportunity to address the Board of Trustees, the Town Manager, Police and Public Works in a town forum setting.
Each year a new budget is proposed. The Bayside Budget for FY 2026 is $15 million dollars. Projected Revenues are slightly less than 14 million dollars. The explanation lies in the full budget proposal which runs 370 pages. (see the Bayside website for the quick version, at two pages and the long version where the explanation for the shortfall lies.)
Elements are discussed and passed on by the Board of Trustees at individual meetings. More input is needed by residents. As a board trustee I would request prominent public notices when budget issues will be discussed as well as an initial open meeting to outline proposed budgets. We can put up a lawn sign about recycling days. We should be able to manage the same for something as important as the Town Budget.
Government needs to be transparent and responsive to the people. Without it, we have government by decree, an unacceptable state of affairs. As a member of the Board of Trustees I will work to make the governance of Bayside more accessible.
QUALITY OF LIFE
Traffic Control
The movement of traffic through the village is a given. Not just main roads like Fairy Chasm and North Regent, but secondary roads as well. There are currently two radar alert enabled on our roads but are minimally effective in that information as to time of day and speed are not being analyzed to pinpoint the times in which our police can maximize enforcement.
As warm weather sets in, more bicyclists, runners, walkers and children will be utilizing our roads. Their safety outweighs any rush to get home or an appointment. The Board needs to exercise greater oversight on our police enforcing speed limits. I intend to make traffic control a key feature of my work on the board.
Many of us walk our dogs.
We are responsible for cleaning up after them. Unfortunately, a significant number miss that last part. While the town provides two waste stations with bags and a disposal can, many ignore this part. As a Board Trustee I will ask that more waste stations be installed around the village and encourage increased awareness.
Better waste management.
We are constrained by federal and state regulations in how we are able to dispose of waste It's an ongoing problem.
Many residents have expressed their frustration about difficulties encountered in disposing of waste material from home projects.
Fallen tree limbs and leaves is a continuing challenge to the town and residents
As a Board Trustee I will work with our Department of Public Works to explore ways of doing better without raising costs.
I'm sure many of you have a particular aspect of Quality of Life issues you would like addressed.
As a Village Trustee I pledge to help you get the answers and hopefully a resolution to the problem
On April 7th I hope that you will consider and vote
